The Adventures of Willy Beamish

I bought "The Adventures of Willy Beamish" on a website and tried to play it on my computer, but it won't run. Does anybody know how to fix this problem or know what it could be?

What does the problem is like a Error popping up or something.

Are you trying to play it on windows XP? These games only work on Windows 98 and below. Unless you have DOSBox, which emulates DOS 5.0 and "tricks" the game into thinking it's being played on an old computer.

There is an error code when I try to open it, the whole screen is blac with the code written on the top but it only stays on the screen for one split second. Then it closes. The code is:

"Unable to initialize hds! mode=4, port=544"

Are you playing the disk version or the CD-ROM version? Sometimes I've had trouble off and on playing some CD games from DosBox like Laura Bow, Ecoquest and Willy Beamish. I think it's because I actually have a DVD-Rom, not a true CD-Rom, and it's getting confused somewhere. Copying all the files from the CD to your game directory on your hard drive solves that problem.

If you are using the disk version, did you INSTALL the game, or just copy the disks to your hard drive? Most of the "newer" Sierra games needed to be installed before they could be played. Try installing from the disks under DosBox.
