The Silver Lining (formerly King's Quest IX) demo

Postby TribalCouncil » Fri Sep 08, 2006 3:08 pm

On September 30, 2005, a blow was dealt to adventure game fans around the world when Vivendi Universal Games Inc. (now Vivendi Games) issued a Cease-and-Desist letter to Phoenix Online Studios which ordered the shutdown of their three part fan-based sequel project King's Quest IX: Every Cloak Has a Silver Lining. A fierce "Save KQIX" campaign by supporters of the project, as well as the presentation of a demo of the game to Vivendi, resulted in the team being granted a license to continue work on the renamed The Silver Lining: A Game Inspired by the King's Quest Series.

Phoenix Online Studios is proud to offer the public a chance to experience a piece of the history of this ambitious undertaking by releasing an abridged version of the very demo that was presented to Vivendi last November. This unique opportunity presents the chance to not only see the results of three weeks of sleepless nights spent putting the demo together, but the removal of certain cutscenes, characters and dialogue allows our fans to have a tangible sample of what we're trying to accomplish without spoiling the final game in any way.

The Silver Lining - Public Demo RC1 was released on July 30, 2006 and has already been downloaded more than 11,000 times. Join those who have already taken the first step towards reliving the magic of King's Quest by downloading the demo as well as the critical v.2.0 patch at http://www.tsl-game.com/trilogy/.

In addition to the demo, Phoenix Online Studios has also released the following materials:

* The trailer for the game, as well as a "Making of" video (both of which were featured in the March 2006 issue of Computer Gaming World) can be viewed on our site at http://www.tsl-game.com/media/promos/trailer/

* We at Phoenix Online Studios have always been immensely proud of our composer, Austin Haynes. To see just why we're so proud, have a listen to "The Day You Were Gone", the love theme from "The Silver Lining". The music was composed and performed by Austin, with lyrics by CĂ©sar Bittar and vocals by Amy Kurylo. http://www.tsl-game.com/media/music/cd/

* To show off the impressive work of our artists, as well as to give you a few more hints on the game's secret storyline, we've released eight brand new desktop wallpapers of the game's major characters. http://www.tsl-game.com/media/wallpapers/

We hope these releases give you an insight into what we're trying to achieve with the game, and we hope you can join us when "Shadows", the first part of "The Silver Lining", is released.
